Adventistische Schriften über: "Exegetical Analysis of Matthew 6:9"

Answer

Matthew 6:9 emphasizes the deep reverence we should bring to God as our Father by sanctifying His name. This sanctification requires that we never use divine titles frivolously, but approach the Most High with holy awe and worship. The Lord's prayer serves as a perfect model that condenses all human needs into a few meaningful words.

The Sanctification of the Divine Name

»‘Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.’ Sanctifying the Lord’s name requires that the words with which we speak of the Highest Being be uttered with reverence. ‘Holy and lofty is his name.’ We must never treat the titles or designations of the deity in any way frivolously. In prayer we enter the audience hall of the Most High; and we should approach Him with holy awe. The angels veil their faces in His presence. The cherubim and the radiant and holy seraphim approach His throne with solemn reverence. How much more should we, finite sinful beings, approach the Lord, our Creator, in a reverent manner!«

The ‘Lord’s Prayer’ as a Comprehensive Prayer Model

»Now pray in this way: Our Father in heaven, your name be hallowed. Your kingdom come. Your will be done as in heaven, so on earth. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. [...] When I sincerely present the model prayer that Christ gave to His disciples, I cannot help but feel that in these few words all my needs are summed up. I present this after I have offered my specific private prayer. When I repeat the Lord’s prayer with heart, mind, and soul, I can go to my work in peace, knowing that I have not prayed incorrectly.«

Reverence Before the Name of God

»Reverence should also be shown toward the name of God. This name should never be uttered frivolously or thoughtlessly. Even in prayer, its frequent or unnecessary repetition should be avoided. ‘Holy and awe-inspiring is his name.’ Angels veil their faces when they pronounce it. With what reverence should we, who are fallen and sinful, take it upon our lips!«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
