Ellen Gould White über: "End Times: Withdrawal of the Holy Spirit from the Earth"
Answer
The Spirit of God will be gradually but surely withdrawn from the earth in the end times, manifesting in increasing catastrophes on land and water as well as societal unrest. When people reject God's warnings and the love of truth, God withdraws His Spirit and leaves them to the deceptions they have chosen. This withdrawal results in unrepentant sinners being given over to the control of the enemy, while the world moves toward a time of unprecedented conflict.
The Gradual Withdrawal of the Holy Spirit
We are living in the time of the end. The rapidly fulfilling signs of the times proclaim that the coming of Christ is near. The days in which we live are solemn and important. The Spirit of God is being gradually but surely withdrawn from the earth. Plagues and judgments are already falling upon those who despise God's grace. The catastrophes on land and sea, the restless state of society, the war alarms are ominous. They foretell approaching events of the greatest magnitude.
Natural Disasters and the Withholding Power of God
The restraining Spirit of God is already being withdrawn from the world. Hurricanes, storms, tempests, fire and flood, disasters at sea and on land follow one after another in quick succession. Science attempts to explain all this. The signs that are gathering around us and proclaim the imminent appearance of the Son of God are being attributed to every cause other than the true one. People cannot recognize the guardian angels who hold back the four winds so that they do not blow until God's servants are sealed; but when God commands His angels to release the winds, there will be a scene of conflict that no feather can describe.
Rejection of the Truth Leads to the Withdrawal of the Spirit
By rejecting the teachings of His Word, God withdraws His Spirit and leaves them to the deceptions they love. [...] As they rejected the warning, the Spirit of God was withdrawn from the sinful generation, and they perished in the waters of the flood. ... So also in the days of Christ. ... With a view to the last days, the same infinite power declares concerning those who "did not accept the love of truth so that they might be saved": "Therefore God will send them strong delusions, that they may believe the lie, so that all who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in iniquity will be judged.
Consequences for Unrepentant Sinners
The Spirit of God is withdrawn from the earth, and unrepentant sinners are given over to the control of the enemy, the destiny they themselves have chosen. Those who persist in violating the Lord's holy Sabbath, which He set apart as a day of rest, will soon see that God will punish the transgressors of His law. People will reap what they have sown.
