Ellen Gould White über: "Ellen White sees that believers cannot prove their faith before courts during the time of tribulation"
Answer
Ellen White describes that many believers in the coming time of crisis will find that they do not sufficiently understand the evidence for their faith. When they must bear witness to the truth before courts and councils alone, many will be surprised by their own ignorance and confused notions about the truth. This weakness stems from their failure to acquire a personal, deep experience with God and His Word during times of peace.
Ignorance of the Foundations of Faith in the Test
»I have been shown that many who claim to have knowledge of the present truth do not know what they believe. They do not understand the evidence of their faith. They have no proper appreciation for the work of the present age. When the time of testing comes, men who now preach to others will, upon examination of their positions, find that there are many things for which they cannot give a satisfactory reason. Until they are tested in this way, they knew nothing of their great ignorance. And there are many in the congregation who take it for granted that they understand what they believe; but until a dispute arises, they do not know their own weakness. When they are separated from like‑minded persons and forced to stand alone to explain their faith, they will be surprised to see how confused their notions are of what they had taken as truth.«
Testimony before Councils and Courts
»The members of the congregation will be tested and examined individually. They will be placed in circumstances where they are forced to bear witness to the truth. Many will be called to speak before councils and courts, perhaps separately and alone. The experience that would have helped them in this emergency they failed to obtain, and their souls are burdened with remorse over wasted opportunities and neglected privileges.«
The Need for a Personal Experience
»You must have a personal experience that is grounded in God. Then you can stand amid the dangers of the last days and be refined, but not consumed by the fire of tribulation that all saints must undergo, so that impurities are removed from their character as preparation for the final polishing of immortality.«
