Adventistische Schriften über: "Drought in the Bible: what sin brings it, and how is rain brought?"
Answer
In the Bible, drought is often portrayed as a direct consequence of apostasy, idolatry, and the disregard of God's commandments. God withholds water to bring His people to reflection and to protect them from spiritual ruin, because the sin of apostasy is far more dangerous to the soul than physical hunger.
Rain is restored when the people show genuine repentance, turn away from their sins, and seek God with all their heart. Obedience to the divine instructions is the condition for the blessing of the \"early and late rain,\" which symbolizes both material prosperity and spiritual renewal.
Causes for the Withholding of Rain
»\"Take heed,\" the Lord warned His people, \"that your heart is not led astray and you turn away, serving and worshiping other gods; otherwise the Lord's wrath will blaze against you, and He will close the heavens so that no rain falls and the land yields no harvest, and you will be swiftly removed from the good land that the Lord gives you.\«
Conditions for the Healing of the Land
»\"If My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn away from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.\" To bring about this blessed outcome, God continued to withhold dew and rain until a decisive reformation would take place.«
Drought as a Means of Divine Mercy
»They cannot see that God's righteousness has awakened against them because of their sins, and that this terrible disaster was sent to them in mercy to prevent them from completely denying and abandoning the God of their fathers. It cost Israel suffering and great misery to be led to the repentance that was necessary to regain their lost faith and a clear sense of their responsibility before God.«
Prayer for Rain upon Confession of Sin
»\"When the heavens are closed and no rain falls because they have sinned against You; if however they pray at this place, acknowledge Your name, and turn from their sin, if You humble them; then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants... and send rain upon Your land.\«
