Adventistische Schriften über: "Doesn't Jesus know when He will return?"
Answer
According to the available scriptures, the statement of Jesus that “neither the Son nor the angels” know the day and the hour is often interpreted to mean that Jesus is not permitted to announce or “make known” the timing of His return. The scriptures emphasize that God the Father alone is authorized to reveal this time, which does not mean that Jesus is still unaware of it today. Rather, it is pointed out that Jesus, as the Lord who has been given all authority, knows the timing, but will proclaim it only at His appearing through the voice of the Father.
The Significance of Christ’s “Not Knowing”
»Neither the Son will make it known [the day and the hour]. But the Father will make it known when He again speaks from heaven. ... His answer is equivalent to the statement: The Father will make it known when it pleases Him; but He has authorized neither man, nor angel, nor the Son to make it known. In exactly this sense Paul uses the term know: I have resolved not to make known anything among you [to make known] except Jesus Christ, and that as the Crucified.«
The Son’s Knowledge of His Return
»But can anyone believe that our glorious Lord, to whom all power in heaven and on earth has been given, is unaware of the time and will remain so until the moment He comes to judge the world? If not, then this text can certainly never prove that the time cannot be made understandable to people. An old English version of the passage reads: But no man makes known that day and hour, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father.«
Withheld Knowledge as Divine Intent
»The exact time of our Lord’s coming is declared to be beyond mortal knowledge. Even the angels who serve those who are to inherit salvation know neither the day nor the hour. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, but only my Father. ... Why has God not given us this knowledge? Because we would not make proper use of it.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
