Answer
The sealing is a present process of preparation that takes place while the four winds are still being held by the angels. It is a time of testing in which God's people must cleanse their character through the power of the Holy Spirit before the final destruction comes upon the godless. Since we are already now being admonished to secure our calling and to work on overcoming sin, the preparation for the sealing begins even before the enactment of Sunday laws.
The Time of Sealing and Preparation
My dear brothers and sisters, let the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ be constantly in your mind and let them displace worldly thoughts and cares. ... The time of sealing is very short and will soon be over. Now is the time, while the four angels hold the four winds, to secure our calling and election.
Character Cleansing as a Prerequisite
Now is the time of preparation. God's seal will never be placed on the forehead of an unclean man or an unclean woman. It will never be placed on the forehead of an ambitious, world‑loving person. ... All who receive the seal must be spotless before God – candidates for heaven.
Not All Sabbath‑Observance Holders Will Be Sealed
Not all who profess to keep the Sabbath will be sealed. There are many, even among those who teach the truth to others, who will not receive God's seal on their foreheads. They had the light of truth ... but they had no corresponding works.
The Sighing and Lamenting Over Sins
Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Spirit ... are those who “sigh and lament over all the abominations that occur in the church.” Their love for purity and for the honor of God is so great ... that they are portrayed as being in soul distress.
