Adventistische Schriften über: "Does the Bible say that one should live vegan?"
Answer
In the Bible one finds God's original plan for human nutrition in the Garden of Eden, which was purely plant‑based and consisted of fruits, grains, nuts and vegetables. The consumption of meat was permitted only after the Flood because of the destruction of vegetation, but it never corresponded to God's ideal intention. Believers today are called to return to this original creation plan, as these foods best promote health and mental clarity.
God's Original Dietary Plan
To know what the best foods are, we must study God's original plan for human nutrition. He, who created man and understands his needs, assigned Adam his food. “Behold,” He said, “I have given you every seed‑bearing herb... and every tree that bears seed‑bearing fruit; these shall be yours for food.”
No Meat in the Garden of Eden
The diet assigned to humanity at the beginning contained no animal food. Only after the Flood, when all the green on the earth had been destroyed, was man permitted to eat meat.
Returning to God's Original Intent
Vegetables, fruits and grains should make up our diet. Not a single ounce of meat should enter our stomachs. Eating meat is unnatural. We should return to God's original purpose in creating humanity.
The Purpose of a Plant‑Based Diet
Grains, fruits, nuts and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods... are the healthiest and most nourishing. They provide strength, endurance and mental vitality that cannot be offered by a more complex and stimulating diet.
Why Meat Was Permitted After the Fall
After the Fall, the eating of meat was tolerated in order to shorten the lifespan of the long‑lived race. It was permitted because of the hardness of human hearts. ... But simple grains, the fruits of trees and vegetables all possess the nourishing qualities necessary to form good blood.
The Example of Manna in the Desert
In the selection of food for man in Eden the Lord showed what the best diet is; in the selection for Israel He taught the same lesson. ... He provided them with the food most suitable for this purpose, not meat but manna, “the bread of heaven.”
