What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Does it matter whether one prays aloud, whispering, or in one's thoughts?"
Answer
Yes, it plays a crucial role in the context and intention of prayer. While in private prayer the words can even be inaudible and silent heartfelt prayers in daily life are very valuable, in public or corporate prayer a clear and distinct voice is decisive. In the community, loud prayer serves to edify those present so that they can understand the prayer and respond with an “Amen”.
The Importance of Voice in Public Prayer
»In the assembly it is necessary to have a clear, distinct pronunciation when praying. How much is lost in a family worship service when the one praying lowers his face and speaks with a soft, weak voice! Prayers expressed in this way are suitable for the chamber, but not for edification in the family or public worship; for if the assembled cannot hear what is said, they cannot say Amen. Why do you not pray in such a way that it is evident you know what you are speaking about, and are not ashamed to show your colors?«
God Also Hears the Softest Plea
»In the midst of the hymns of the heavenly choir, God hears the cries of the weakest human being. We pour out our heartfelt desire in our quiet chambers, we whisper a prayer as we go about our way, and our words reach the throne of the Monarch of the Universe. They may be inaudible to any human ear, but they cannot pass in silence, nor can they be lost through the activities of business life.«
Silent Prayers in Daily Life
»Pray in your little chamber, and while you go about your daily work, let your heart often be lifted to God. Thus Enoch walked with God. These silent prayers rise like precious incense before the throne of grace. Satan cannot overwhelm one whose heart is so directed toward God. There is no time or place where it would be inappropriate to make a request to God.«
Silent Devotion in the Church
»Everyone in the congregation who fears God should unite with bowed head in silent prayer, so that God may honor the assembly with His presence. When the service is opened with a prayer, each knee should bow before the Holy One and each heart rise in silent devotion to God. The prayers of faithful worshippers will be heard.«
Clarity in Service to God
»When you speak a prayer in worship, remember that you are addressing God and that He wants you to speak in a way that all present can hear and can unite their petitions with yours. A prayer spoken so hastily that the words become jumbled does not honor God and benefits the listeners nothing. Let them speak slowly and clearly, in a tone loud enough to be heard by all, so that the people can unite in Amen.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
