What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Does faith grow through trials or through understanding?"

Answer

Faith grows both through trials and through understanding, as both elements work together in divine providence. While trials and conflicts strengthen faith by teaching us to rely wholly on God, faith is also nourished and steadied by the study of God’s Word and the realization of truth. An active faith that is expressed in self‑less service to others, in turn, leads to a deeper experience and a longing for even greater divine insight.

Faith Growth Through Conflict and Trial

»Peace that surpasses all understanding is not for those who shrink from trials, battles, and self‑denial. ... The clouds that are placed between the soul and the sun of righteousness are permitted in God’s providence so that our faith may be strengthened to grasp the great hopes and sure promises that shine unblemished through the darkness of every storm. Faith must grow through conflict and suffering.«

The Role of God’s Word and Understanding

»It [faith] grows when it is exercised in the acquisition of God’s Word. To strengthen faith, we must often bring it into contact with the Word. In the study of the Bible, the student should be led to see the power of God’s Word.«

Connection of Trial, Prayer, and Understanding

»Experiencing resistance and trials will drive you to the Bible and to prayer. You will grow in the grace and understanding of Christ and develop a rich experience. The spirit of self‑less work for others gives the character depth, stability, and Christian loveliness... You will have a clear spiritual perception, a steady, growing faith, and an increased power in prayer.«

Growth Through Instruction in the Word

»The most successful method of securing their salvation and keeping them from temptations is to consistently teach them in God’s Word. And when parents become learners with their children, they will find that their own growth in the understanding of truth advances more quickly. Unbelief will disappear; faith and activity will increase; certainty and trust will deepen as they consequently come to know the Lord.«

Trials as a Means to Spiritual Strength

»God permits us to be placed in circumstances that test us in order to enlarge our love and perfect our trust in Him. Through self‑denial and suffering with Christ we grow in grace and in the understanding of truth. Trials will come, but they are proof that we are children of God.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
