What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Do I obtain forgiveness from Jesus for an attempted murder of my brother, without him having forgiven me?"

Answer

Forgiveness from God is inseparably linked with sincere repentance and the effort to reconcile with the injured party. If you have hurt someone, it is a biblical condition to acknowledge the fault and ask for forgiveness before your worship can be accepted by God. Should the other person be unable to forgive you, you have nonetheless fulfilled your duty of repentance and restitution and can ask God to heal the wounds you cannot close yourself.

Reconciliation as a prerequisite for acceptance by God

»There are confessions that the Lord has commanded us to make to one another. If you have hurt your brother by word or deed, you must first reconcile with him before your worship is acceptable to Heaven. Confess to those you have harmed your wrongdoing and make restitution by bringing fruits that correspond to repentance. If someone harbors bitterness, anger, or malice toward a brother, he should go personally to him, confess his sin, and ask for forgiveness.«

Restitution and God's Action

»If you are toward your brothers as caring, kind, and tender as you were previously harsh, unforgiving, and oppressive, you will confess your faults and make restitution as far as possible; and when you have done all you can, you may ask the Lord to do what is impossible for you—to heal the wounds you have inflicted, to forgive you, and to erase your transgression.«

An Example of Repentance and Confession

»One they had sought and met on the street, they fell directly into dust and dirt on their knees, wept and confessed their guilt... "Now," they said, "we want you to forgive us, and we do not ask you to refrain from arresting us for the sheep theft, but we ask for forgiveness; we will pay every cent of the cost for the sheep." ... This man possessed nothing in his lawlessness, but since his conversion the Lord has richly blessed him, and he uses his means for restitution.«

Conditions for Divine Forgiveness

»The only reason we do not have forgiveness for past sins is that we are not willing to humble our hearts and fulfill the conditions of the word of truth... True conversion is always of a specific kind and acknowledges certain sins. They can be wrongs that should be confessed to the persons who have suffered because of them.«

The Order of Reconciliation

»I am instructed to say that there are sins between a person and his God that no other human being needs to know about. When the one bearing such sins makes peace with God, the Lord will forgive him and the burden will roll off his soul. He will then make a confession to his fellow humans if he has wronged them, and as he confesses, God will be merciful and forgive his sin.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
