Adventistische Schriften über: "Did Job already have the correct understanding of righteousness by faith?"
Answer
Job already possessed a deep trust in his Redeemer and understood that righteousness is obtained through faith in a power that triumphs over sin and death. Although he initially defended himself before his friends, the direct encounter with God led him to a deeper self‑knowledge and repentance. Like the other patriarchs, Job was also justified by faith, because his trust was directed toward God's work of redemption.
The Knowledge of the Redeemer and True Humility
Job knew the power of the One who “had the right to redemption.” He hears him say with full confidence: “I know that my Redeemer lives.” His faith seized a power that not only redeemed from sin, but would even restore the patriarch’s body after worms have devoured it.
God takes Job’s case into His own hands. ... The self‑justification he deemed necessary to withstand his friends’ condemnation is not necessary before God. He never judges wrongly; He never errs. ... As soon as Job hears the divine voice, his soul bows under the awareness of his sinfulness, and he says before God: “I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.”
It happens through faith. The patriarchs were justified by faith and thus died. The same applies to the righteous since that time. All their life’s work, their deeds of faith, are faithfully written in the heavenly books of record.
He shows them [his friends] that when they defend God by professing their faith in Him and their awareness of sin, he has a deeper and more thorough knowledge of it than they ever had. “Wretched comforters you all are” is the reply he gives to their criticism and rebuke.
