What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Did Jesus prostrate himself in Gethsemane or did he pray kneeling? (Differences between Matthew and Luke)"

Answer

In the writings of Ellen G. White it is described that Jesus in Gethsemane both took a kneeling posture and, in his deep soul distress, completely stretched out on the ground. While he initially knelt down, the increasing anguish led him to eventually pray prostrate, that is, lying flat on the cold earth. These physical expressions reflect the extreme struggle he waged on behalf of the sins of the world.

The Bent Figure of Jesus in Gethsemane

»When the Son of God bent in the garden of Gethsemane in the posture of prayer, the anguish of his spirit forced sweat like large drops of blood from his pores. ... In his soul's terror he lay stretched out on the cold earth. He sensed his Father's displeasure.«

Jesus kneeling in prayer

»Consider his kneeling figure, as he pours out his heart to the Father in the moonlit hours. See the angels who watch the earnest supplicant. His prayer rises for us to the whole heavens. ... The disciples were often witnesses of how Christ knelt in prayer, with their hearts broken and humbled.«

The Example of Pleading in the Greatest Distress

»He went a little forward, fell to the ground and prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said: Abba, Father, all things are possible for you; take this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what you will.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
