Adventistische Schriften über: "Deliverance from demonic powers by Jesus"
Answer
Jesus Christ delivered people from demonic powers by recognizing the direct influence of evil spirits as intelligent beings and casting them out with authority. He saw it as his mission to lead Satan’s prisoners into freedom and give them back control over themselves. Those who were delivered through Jesus were often called to bear witness to this saving power and to spread the glad tidings of salvation.
Christ’s authority over evil spirits
He, who had defeated Satan in the desert of temptation, stood before his enemy again. The demon poured out all its power to retain control over its victim. To lose ground here meant granting victory to Jesus. It seemed as if the tormented man must surrender his life in the battle with the enemy who had ruined his manhood. Yet the Savior spoke with authority and set the captive free. The man who had been possessed stood before the astonished crowd, happy in the freedom of self‑mastery. Even the demon bore witness to the divine power of the Savior.
Jesus’ mission: Freedom for the prisoners
Jesus spoke in the synagogue about the kingdom He had come to establish and about His mission to free Satan’s prisoners. He was interrupted by a cry of terror. A possessed man rushed out of the crowd and shouted: "Leave us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are; the Holy One of God.
Healing of possession as a spiritual reality
The fact that people were possessed by demons is clearly presented in the New Testament. Those affected did not suffer merely from illnesses of natural origin. Christ had a complete understanding of what He was dealing with, and He recognized the direct presence and activity of evil spirits.
The testimony of the delivered
Here they had a work to do – to go into a pagan household and report the blessing they had received from Jesus. [...] Not only did they tell their own families and neighbors about Jesus, but they traveled throughout the whole Decapolis and proclaimed everywhere His power to save, describing how He had delivered them from the demons. By doing this work, they could receive a greater blessing than if they had simply remained in His presence for their own benefit.
The power of Jesus’ word
In almost every case Christ addressed the demon as an intelligent being and commanded it to depart from its victim and no longer torment it. The worshippers in Capernaum, who saw His mighty power, "all were amazed and said among themselves: What kind of word is this? For He commands the unclean spirits with authority and force, and they depart.
