Adventistische Schriften über: "Daniel: North-South King different interpretations"
Answer
In the Adventist interpretation of Daniel's prophecies there are various approaches concerning the king of the north and the south, especially from Daniel 11:40. While there is broad agreement on the early fulfillments, opinions diverge regarding the end‑time events. Some interpreters applied the texts to Napoleon's career and France, while others, such as Uriah Smith, saw the fulfillment in the history of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). There is also the position of relating these powers to the papacy, which, however, has been evaluated differently within early Adventist literature.
\n\nDiverging interpretive lines in Daniel 11
\n\n\n\"And he will flood and pass over.\" We have found events that represent a very fitting fulfillment of the advance of the king of the south and the whirlwind attack of the king of the north against the French power. Up to this point there is a fairly general agreement in the application of the prophecy. We now reach a point where the interpreters' views begin to diverge. To whom do the words \"he will flood and pass over\" refer – to France or to the king of the north? The application of the rest of this chapter depends on the answer to this question. From this point on, two interpretive lines are pursued. Some apply the words to France and try to find a fulfillment in Napoleon's career. Others apply them to the king of the north and accordingly point to a fulfillment in the history of Turkey. We speak only of these two positions, because the attempt by some to bring the papacy into play here is so obviously off target that its consideration need not stop us.
Daniel's duty for clear interpretation
\n\n\nDaniel had to interpret the dream in a language the king could understand; and although its terrifying content left him in silent awe, he still had to speak the truth, regardless of the consequences for himself.
The importance of precise prophecy
\n\n\nThis lofty and earliest prophecy extends to the end of time. And throughout all intervening ages, other prophecies have covered all the more important events in the great drama of history.
