Adventistische Schriften über: "Collaboration with other churches within the framework of ecumenism"

Answer

The writings warn against cooperation with other churches or religious unions when it means compromising biblical truths or losing one's own identity. A federative union of churches is often perceived as a tool of power aimed at influencing religious minorities and pursuing political objectives.

Particularly critical is the unity that is not based on agreement in truth, but merely on a compromise of common points while excluding disputed doctrines. True unity among God's people, according to these sources, cannot be achieved through alliances with secular or apostate organizations.

Dangers of religious unions

»This event ... clearly revealed the fact that this large federation of churches stands ready to coerce the religious minority on matters of doctrine and practice. ... Gaining power was the fundamental idea of the federation; and the power thus obtained – the power of numbers – is not used to persuade, but to compel. ... What they have secured is the power of a large religious combine, a church trust; and it is in the nature of a trust to overthrow anything that stands in its way.«

Warning against compromises for peace

»It is a grave mistake on the part of those who are God's children to try to bridge the gap that separates them from the children of darkness by abandoning principles or endangering the truth through compromises. It means surrendering the peace of Christ in order to make peace with the world, to fraternize with the world. The sacrifice is too costly to have peace with the world by giving up the principles of truth.«

Preserving individuality in the work

»We should now use all the abilities entrusted to us to give the world the final warning message. In this work we must preserve our individuality. We should not unite with secret societies or unions. We should stand free in God and constantly look to Christ to receive guidance.«

Unity at the expense of truth

»To secure such a union, the discussion of topics on which there was disagreement – no matter how important they might be from a biblical standpoint – necessarily had to be omitted.«

Rejection of cooperation with other organizations

»It was evident that the Adventist concepts of unity and Babylon prevented any form of cooperation with other church organizations. ... “God's people trust too much in the words of strangers and ask them for counsel and assistance when they should not,” because “the enemy makes them his instruments and works through them to confuse God's people and take something away from them.”«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
