In her visions Ellen White described a throne on which both the Father and the Son were seated. While she could admire the sweet face of Jesus, the figure of the Father was hidden by a cloud of glorious light.
When she asked Jesus whether his Father had a similar form to himself, he confirmed this, but explained that the sight of God's glory would be lethal for a mortal being. This scene illustrates the coexistence of God's approachability in Jesus and His unattainable holiness as Father.

»I saw a throne, and on it sat the Father and the Son. I looked at the face of Jesus and admired His sweet form. I could not perceive the figure of the Father, for a cloud of glorious light covered Him. I asked Jesus whether His Father had a form like Himself. He said that He did, but I could not see it; for He said: “If you were to behold even once the glory of His form, you would cease to exist.”«
»And I saw the Father rise from the throne and go in a flaming chariot into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain and sit. Then Jesus rose from the throne...
