What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Can one continue to read the Bible intensively despite a declining prayer life?"
Answer
The study of Holy Scripture should never be done without accompanying prayer, because only the Holy Spirit can prepare the heart to understand God's Word correctly. A declining prayer life leads to a waning of spiritual vitality and the loss of connection with God, causing the spiritual senses to lose their strength. Since prayer is the breath of the soul, no other form of grace can replace its life‑essential function for spiritual health.
Never study the Bible without prayer
»The Bible should never be studied without prayer. Only the Holy Spirit can cause us to sense the importance of things that are easy to understand, or protect us from distorting difficult truths. Heavenly angels prepare the heart to comprehend God's Word. We are enchanted by its beauty and strengthened by its promises.«
Prayer as the Breath of the Soul
»Prayer is the breath of the soul. It is the secret of spiritual power. No other means of grace can replace it and preserve the health of the soul. Prayer brings the heart into immediate contact with the source of life and strengthens the tendons and muscles of religious experience. Neglect the practice of prayer... and you lose your hold on God. The spiritual faculties lose their vitality, and religious experience lacks health and strength.«
Necessity for Spiritual Health
»Several times a day, precious, golden moments should be devoted to prayer and the study of Holy Scripture, even if only to memorize a passage, so that spiritual life can exist in the soul. ... Communion with God is of utmost importance for spiritual health, and only there can the wisdom and sound judgment necessary for fulfilling every duty be obtained.«
The Danger of Neglecting Prayer
»The real beginning of evil was a neglect of vigilance and silent prayer, followed by a neglect of other religious duties, thereby paving the way for all the sins that followed. ... We must be controlled daily by the Spirit of God, or we will be controlled by Satan.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
