Answer
The call to leave “Babylon” is a divine invitation to believers to separate themselves from corrupt and fallen religious systems, so as not to partake in their sins and plagues. This warning is described as part of the final message to the world, when religious organizations have discarded the truth in favor of worldly alliances and false teachings. By obeying this call, the upright join a people who keep all of God’s commandments and fully separate themselves from sin.
The Final Call to Separate from Babylon
About Babylon, at the time depicted in this prophecy, it is declared: “Its sins have risen to the heavens, and God has taken note of its injustices.” [...] But God still has a people in Babylon; and before the visitation by His courts these faithful must be called out, so that they “do not partake in their sins and do not receive their plagues.” Hence the movement, symbolized by the angel who comes down from heaven [...] and with a strong voice calls and proclaims the sins of Babylon. In connection with his message the call is heard: “Go out from it, my people.”
State of the Fallen Churches
Babylon is called the “Mother of harlots.” Through its daughters, churches are to be symbolized that cling to its teachings and traditions and follow its example, sacrificing truth and the recognition of God to enter an unlawful alliance with the world. [...] And in which religious bodies is the larger part of Christ’s followers found today? Undoubtedly in the various churches that profess the Protestant faith.
Decisive Separation in the Last Days
There was an exodus, a decisive separation from the ungodly, a flight for the sake of life. It was so in the days of Noah; so with Lot; so with the disciples before the destruction of Jerusalem; and it will be so in the last days. Again the voice of God is heard in a warning message that calls His people to separate themselves from the prevailing injustice.
Obedience to the Truth
The light that was poured out upon the waiting spread everywhere, and those in the churches who had some light and had not heard and had rejected the three messages obeyed the call and left the fallen churches. [...] Every saint followed, regardless of the consequences, the convictions of his own conscience and united with those who kept all of God’s commandments.
Breaking the Bonds
Then I heard a voice to those who had been oppressed and mocked: “Go out from them and touch nothing unclean.” Obedience to this voice caused many to tear the bonds that bound them, leave the communities that were in darkness, and join those who had previously gained their freedom.
