Adventistische Schriften über: "Biblical love toward the ungodly"

Answer

Biblical love toward the ungodly means meeting people in ignorance and sin with the same tender sympathy and compassion that Christ has shown us. Every soul, no matter how deep it has fallen, is precious in God's eyes and still bears traces of His image, which is why we should strive to win them over with love rather than with harshness.

We are called to act like Enoch among the ungodly: as one who is among them but not of them, and who calls them to repentance through a holy way of life and earnest admonition. True discipleship is shown in that we meet even our worst enemies with forgiveness and place the salvation of the sinner above our own prejudices.

Love for the ignorant and sinful

»All who have devoted themselves to Christ’s service should work as He worked, and should love those who are in ignorance and sin just as He loved them. Yet among us as a people there was a lack of deep, serious, heart‑moving sympathy and love for the tried and erring. Many displayed great coldness and sinful neglect... by staying as far as possible from those who most need help.«

The value of every lost soul

»Just as a coin bears the image and inscription of the ruling power, so man, at his creation, bore the image and inscription of God. Although now distorted and clouded by the influence of sin, the traces of this inscription remain on every soul. God wishes to win them back... The inhumanity of man toward man is our greatest sin. Many believe they represent God’s righteousness, while they completely fail to portray His tenderness and great love.«

Enoch’s example among the ungodly

»Enoch lived an active, zealous life of self‑denial. He walked with God in a world so corrupt that the Lord later destroyed it by the Flood. And he walked among the ungodly as one among them, not as one of them, but as one whose intentions, works, and hopes were founded not only on the present age but on eternity... After periods of withdrawal he mixed himself among the ungodly to admonish them to despise evil and choose good.«

Compassion instead of condemnation

»Jesus never suppressed a word of truth; but He always spoke it out of love... He did not rebuke human weakness. He fearlessly denounced hypocrisy, unbelief, and injustice, yet tears rose in His voice when He pronounced His condemning rebukes. He wept over Jerusalem... He saw in all fallen souls whose salvation was His mission.«

Love toward enemies

»Let us lay aside all suspicion and hatred, and all feelings of bitterness, even toward our worst enemies, those who seek to harm us... It was “while we were still sinners” that “Christ died for us.” In view of His unmerited love and mercy toward us, how can we harbor malice or even a feeling of unfriendliness toward our brothers who were redeemed by His blood?«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
