What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Basic understanding of Isaiah 6:9-12 and Ellen White commentary on Isaiah's duty, warning, hope, judgment, and remnant"
Answer
According to Ellen White, Isaiah's duty was to raise his voice boldly against the prevailing injustices and to proclaim warning and admonition to the rebellious people. Although he was confronted with hardening and severe judgments as well as devastation and captivity were announced, he was also to be a prophet of hope. These judgments were intended to lead seekers to repentance so that, in the end, a faithful remnant could be saved.
Isaiah's duty, warning message, judgment and the salvation of a remnant
»The prophet's duty was clear; he was to raise his voice in protest against the prevailing injustices. Yet he hesitated to begin the work without some assurance of hope. "Lord, how long?" he asked. ... His spiritual burden for the wayward Judah should not be borne in vain. His mission should not be completely fruitless. ... Throughout his life he had to be a patient, courageous teacher—a prophet of hope as well as of disaster. When the divine decree was finally fulfilled, the full fruit of his efforts and the labors of all faithful messengers of God would become visible. A remnant was to be saved. For this to happen, the messages of warning and pleading had to be delivered to the rebellious nation, as the Lord declared: "Until the cities are laid waste, without inhabitants, and the houses are empty, and the land lies completely desolate and the Lord has led the people far away and the desolation in the land is great." The severe judgments that were to strike the unrepentant—war, exile, oppression, the loss of power and prestige among the nations—were all to come so that those who recognized therein the hand of an affronted God could be led to repentance.«
Isaiah's calling and the difficult warning message to an disobedient people
»Under difficult and discouraging circumstances, Isaiah, when he was still a young man, was called to a prophetic mission. His land was threatened with disaster. ... But the danger from their enemies was not the greatest peril. It was the perversity of the people, which brought the deepest dejection upon the Lord's servant. Through their apostasy and rebellion they challenged God's judgments. The youthful prophet had been called to deliver a message of warning to them, and he knew he would encounter stubborn resistance. He trembled as he looked at himself and thought of the stubbornness and unbelief of the people for whom he was to work. His task seemed almost hopeless to him.«
