What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Are there any indications of when or how the prohibition on buying or selling will take place? Will it happen at the beginning or only much later during the time of the plagues?"

Answer

The decree that forbids buying and selling will be issued when the religious and secular powers unite to enforce Sunday sanctification. This occurs in the time of tribulation shortly before the outpouring of the plagues, as the work of redemption draws to its end. In this phase, believers who keep the Sabbath are regarded as lawless and eventually even threatened with death.

The Timing of the Buying and Selling Prohibition

»The time will come when we can no longer sell at any price. Soon the decree will be issued that forbids people to buy or sell, except those who have the mark of the beast. Houses and lands will be of no use to the saints in the time of tribulation, for they will then have to flee from raging mobs.«

»The beginning of the "time of tribulation" mentioned here does not refer to the period when the plagues are poured out, but to a short interval shortly before they are poured out, while Christ is still in the sanctuary. At that time, as the work of redemption concludes, tribulation will come upon the earth; the nations will be angry, yet they will be restrained so as not to prevent the work of the third angel.«

»Then the decree will be issued that forbids those who keep the Lord's Sabbath from buying or selling, and threatens them with punishment and even death if they do not keep the first day of the week as Sabbath. "And at that time Michael will arise... and it will be a time of tribulation like never before".«

»The penalty associated with refusing to take this mark [of the beast] is the loss of all social privileges, a revocation of the right to buy and sell. ... If they reject it, they lose their civil rights and become outlaws in the land.«

»Those who had only shortly before issued a decree that God's saints may neither buy nor sell now find themselves subjected to a far more effective process of the same restriction. The imposition of the very first plague must lead to a complete cessation of trade in those luxury items for which Babylon is known.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
