Adventistische Schriften über: "Are the creation days 24‑hour days?"

Answer

Yes, according to the writings of the Seventh‑Day Adventists, the creation days are literal 24‑hour days. The Bible describes each creation day as a unit of evening and morning, which, like every subsequent day, is marked by the rising and setting of the sun. The notion that the creation days encompassed indefinite periods or millions of years is rejected as an error that undermines the significance of the fourth commandment and the Sabbath.

The Creation Days as 24‑Hour Days

»Human philosophy explains that an indefinite period was taken in the creation of the world. Does God present the matter that way? No; He says: “He is an everlasting sign between Me and the children of Israel; for in six days [not in six indefinite periods; for then there would be no way for man to observe the day mentioned in the fourth commandment] the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested and refreshed Himself.” ... The subtlety concerning the creation of the world in an indefinite period is one of Satan’s falsehoods. God speaks to the family of humanity in a language they can understand. He does not leave the matter so indefinite that people can handle it according to their theories. When the Lord declares that He made the world in six days and rested on the seventh day, He means a twenty‑four‑hour day, defined by the rising and setting of the sun.«

Literal Days Instead of Extended Ages

»But the assumption that the events of the first week required thousands upon thousands of years directly strikes at the foundation of the fourth commandment. It portrays the Creator as if He commands man to observe the week of literal days in remembrance of immense, indefinite periods. This is unlike His way of dealing with His creations. It makes indefinite and dark what He has made very clear. ... The Bible knows no long ages in which the earth slowly developed from chaos. From each successive creation day, the holy account declares that it consisted of evening and morning, just like all the other days that followed. ... However, this does not convey the idea that the creation days were anything other than literal days.«

Each Creation Day Consisted of Evening and Morning

»Millions of years, it is claimed, were required for the development of the earth from chaos; and to align the Bible with this supposed scientific revelation, it is assumed that the creation days were immense, indefinite periods that spanned thousands or even millions of years. Such a conclusion is completely unfounded. The biblical account is in harmony with itself and with the teachings of nature. From the first day used in the work of creation, there is the report: “And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.” And the same is essentially said of each of the first six days of the creation week. Each of these periods is inspired as a day that consisted of evening and morning, just as every other day since that time.«

The Creation Day as a 24‑Hour Day

»“The earliest recorded measure of time is the day. In that oldest and most venerable creation account by Moses, the progression is marked by the works of each day. From evening and morning the first day was made, etc. Here the word ‘day’ denotes the civil or calendar day of twenty‑four hours, including ‘evening’ or the natural night and ‘morning’ or the natural day; while the sun, in the course of the daily rotation of the earth, is either below or above the horizon of a place: thus corresponding to a solar day in astronomy.”«
