The Bible is the voice of God, through which He personally speaks to us, and the sincere study of the Holy Scripture brings a person into a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. If we neglect His Word or do not desire His presence in our lives, we separate ourselves from Jesus and shut ourselves off from the light of His grace. An unwillingness to hear God's Word or to accept His instruction leads to spiritual blindness and reveals a heart that has turned away from God and His guidance.
Separation from Christ through neglecting His presence
»If we are so absorbed in worldly things that we no longer have a thought for the One in whom our hope for eternal life rests, we separate ourselves from Jesus and from the heavenly angels. These holy beings cannot remain where the presence of the Savior is not desired and His absence goes unnoticed. [...] By separating themselves from Jesus, they have shut out the light of His presence.«
God's Word as the Lord's voice and source of connection

Rejection of the Spirit of God through disregard of His Word
