Ellen Gould White über: "Adventist warning against spiritual mysticism"
Answer
The Adventist writings strongly warn against spiritism, which is increasingly hiding under the guise of Christianity and deceiving through miracles and healings. Particularly dangerous are mystical and pantheistic teachings that portray God as a being that permeates nature, because they undermine the true understanding of God and lead to separation from Him. Whoever embraces these fascinating errors falls into a seductive captivity from which one can no longer free oneself by one's own power.
The danger of deception by spiritism
By increasingly imitating the nominal Christianity of the present, spiritism gains greater power to deceive and ensnare. Satan himself has turned according to the modern order of things. He will appear in the character of an angel of light. Through the work of spiritism, miracles are performed, the sick are healed, and many undeniable wonders are accomplished.
Warning against pantheistic theories
Even now, spiritist teachings are infiltrating our people, undermining the faith of those who give them an ear. The theory that God is a being that permeates all of nature is one of Satan's most deceitful lists. It misrepresents God and is a dishonor to His greatness and majesty.
The destructive effect of false mysticism
Pantheistic theories are not supported by the Word of God. The light of His truth shows that these theories are soul-destroying means. Darkness is their element, sensuality their sphere. They satisfy the natural heart and give inclinations free rein. Separation from God is the result of their acceptance.
The spell of the deceiver
There are only few who have a correct understanding of the deceptive power of spiritism and the danger of falling under its influence. Many engage in it merely to satisfy their curiosity. ... Once they are moved to submit their mind to its guidance, it holds them captive. It is impossible to free oneself by one's own power from the intoxicating, alluring spell.
Alliance against the truth
Papists, Protestants, and worldly people will equally adopt the form of godliness without its power, and in this union they will see a great movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-awaited millennium.
Loss of faith through spiritism
If the fascinating influence of the archdeceiver overwhelms you, you are poisoned, and his deadly influence distorts and destroys your faith that Christ is the Son of God, and you cease to rely on the merits of His blood.
