Jesus is the Lord of our life when we give Him our whole heart, all inclinations, and our full loyalty, instead of giving priority to our own self. That He is first in everything means that His honor and glory stand above all personal desires and He is the source of our life, our strength, and our holiness. This gives us hope because He is a sure anchor and a faithful helper who gives us comfort in distress and whose promises guarantee us an imperishable, eternal inheritance.
Giving Christ the First Place
»Our Redeemer claims far more than we give Him. The self pushes its desire in between to be first; but the Lord claims the whole heart, the entire aspirations. He will not enter as second. ... When the heart, soul, strength, and life are wholly surrendered to God, when affection is fully offered to Him, we will make Him the Highest in all our service.«
