What does EGW write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Why does the new moon have such a high significance? We read in Colossians 2:16-18 that the ceremonial laws are abolished because they are a shadow. The people of God, as described in Revelation, Isaiah, and the writings of Ellen White, will worship eternally, just as they do every Sabbath, also every new moon. What is the purpose behind this?"
Answer
The new moon has a prophetic and festive significance, as it marks in the new heavens and on the new earth the times when the redeemed gather for worship before God and to eat from the tree of life. While the ceremonial regulations of the new moon, as part of the \"hand covenant of the statutes\", ended at the cross, the monthly assembly remains in eternity. These regular gatherings serve to eternally celebrate God's creative power and the completed work of redemption.
\n\nThe Monthly Assembly and the Tree of Life
\n\n\n»The reason for this monthly gathering of the entire host of the redeemed from every part of the new earth in the New Jerusalem is found in the language of Revelation: “And he showed me a pure river of living water, clear as crystal, that flowed from the throne of God and the Lamb. In the middle of its street and on both sides of the river was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruit and brought forth its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree served for the healing [the service] of the peoples.”«
Distinction Between Ceremonial Law and Eternal Worship
\n\n\n»The festivals, new moons, and Sabbaths of the ceremonial law, which Paul declared to be abolished as a result of the removal of this code, were already especially observed. The facts prove that the Lord’s Sabbath does not belong to their count... Just as the new heavens and the new earth will remain, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it will happen that from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another all flesh will come to worship before me, says the Lord.«
The Heavenly Trumpets and Worship
\n\n\n»In the ancient exemplary service, the children of God met at the beginning of each month and on the Sabbath for worship, obedient to the clear tones of the silver trumpets; in the same way we can imagine that when the earth is newly made, the redeemed will respond to the sounds of the heavenly trumpets to worship before the Lord.«
Gathering as a Shadow of Future Glory
\n\n\n»These new moons and Sabbaths that lie in the “new heavens and the new earth”... must naturally be understood as images of the duration or permanence of the glorious worship of the saints in the heavenly state... Thus the apostle tells us about such things that they are shadows “of future things.”«
