Joseph received an urgent instruction from an angel in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and the child. This warning was for the protection of the infant Jesus, as Herod was trying to kill him. Joseph obeyed this divine directive immediately and set out on the journey that very night.

The Flight to Egypt

»In the same way Joseph received the warning to flee to Egypt with Mary and the child. And the angel said, “Stay there until I tell you otherwise; for Herod will seek the child to kill him.” Joseph obeyed without delay and, for greater safety, set out at night.«
